  • A city which saw colonial forces come and go from the 16th to the 20th centuries - is the coastal city of Galle, Sri Lanka. Located in the Bay of Galle, stands the emblematic Galle Fort which is also known as the Ramparts of Galle - first built in 1588 by
  • the Portuguese and then fortified by in the mid 17th century by the Dutch.  Its historical and cultural importance was recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. Within its walls are several places of worship,
  • a museum, chic restaurants and bars, boutique hotels, and several quaint shops that sell gems, trinkets, and vibrant Sri Lankan handicrafts. Enjoy walking down cobblestone streets and stopping at places that catch your curiosity.

Tour in brief

This tour generally covers the whole Galle Fort area. This tour will include detailed description of the development of the Galle Fort area, going back to colonial history, interesting back stories and amazing views from the ramparts, as well as insights into Sri Lanka today.   At the end of the tour,  you can enjoy watching the sunset in the horizon (on the evening tour) - before you leave the Galle Fort premises.
