Since 2000, Eco Team’s Birding Arm has been offering professional and specialised birding and nature tours in Sri Lanka, offering customised packages to suit the customer’s interests and requirements.

Tour in brief

  • At a pre-designated location, you will be met by the Eco Team staff along with your guide/naturalist for the tour.

  • A 2-hour brief by the guide will follow, prior to entering Muthurajawela. Morning tour will begin at 7.30 a.m. while the evening excursion at 4 p.m.

  • Once inside the wetland watch out and observe - in this hotspot for birds, animals and reptiles, along with an impressive diversity in flora.

 

Important

  • Suitable casual clothing for windy, rainy and warm weather conditions should be brought.

  • Suitable footwear is strongly suggested.

  • Insect repellent, insect bite cream and sun lotion are recommended items to carry.

  • The Colombo city cycle tour covers several additional historical and cultural sites such as: the Railway Museum, Old Law Court, Kathiresan Kovil and the Jamia-ul-Alfar Mosque (also known as the Red Mosque).

Tour in brief

Commence from Galle Face Green, you will be taken around the most famous attractions of the city including: the Galle Face Hotel, Dutch Hospital and the Old Parliament.

Take a peek at Colombo’s lesser known attractions such as the old Lighthouse as well as the National Museum and the Vihara Maha Devi Park.

Drive past also some of the city’s most prominent buildings such as the BMICH, Nelum Pokuna Theatre and the Colombo Town Hall.

The Attidiya Bird Sanctuary will be the final location.

We will also take photographs of your experience through the city while the softcopies will be sent to you by email.

Finally, you will be dropped at a desired location within the Colombo city.

One of the many attractions of the country is that you can do many activities in a very short time span, without having to travel long distances from one activity location to another. For example, you could do a rainforest walk in the morning, a whitewater-rafting trip by noon, and do a leisurely stroll on the beach in the evening, all on the same day!

Why we do not promote following attractions

You may find that we have not included certain common tourist attractions that are generally found in other programme designs; namely, the turtle hatcheries on the southern coast, the Pinnawala elephant orphanage, the Habarana elephant rides and the Bullock Cart Trail. These are not included due to conservation and ethical reasons.

 

Turtle Hatcheries

We do not encourage our visitors to patronize the turtle hatcheries as this concept has serious negative aspects in terms of conservation. We encourage visitors to observe turtles in their natural habitats. For further information check the link below.

Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage

We do not encourage our clients to visit the above either. We do not agree with the concept of how the establishment is run. We are happy to see that even the Born Free Foundation has now taken a similar stand. 

Elephant back rides – Habarana
We have concerns about the way this is being done. However, there may be a few ethical operators but in general, we do not agree with the “working hours”, how they give rest to the animals, trails they use etc.

Traditional village tour with a canoe trip and bullock carts – Habarana
This is an extremely commercialized touristic operation where a lot is “staged”. We encourage the visitors to have less touristic experiences and instead experience the real Sri Lanka.
